The town of Bassano is located 55 km from BEB IN VALLE and the town, with most inhabitants in the province of Vicenza. Situated at the northern edge of the Venetian plain at the foot of the Alps in Vicenza, the point where the Brenta Canal flows into the valley of the Brenta. Also like Vicenza was awarded the gold medal for bravery for the sacrifices of its people and its activities in the partisan struggle during the Second World War. The bridge on the Brenta Bassano, called Ponte Vecchio bridge, is also known as the Alpine and is the subject and the title of a popular song of the Alpini.
The story begins well before the bridge in 1209 when it had its first construction dates. This structure was finally swept away by river floods in October 1567. Andrea Palladio in 1569 designed a new bridge initially proposing a totally different project, The City Council rejected the project. Then during summer 1569 Palladio returned to a project on a wooden structure, of great visual impact. The deck was supported on four wooden poles triangular and was covered by a roof supported by Tuscan columns. This bridge since ancient times was the main means of communication between Bassano and Vicenza.

Museum Library and Archives of Bassano del Grappa, established in the early nineteenth century, is situated within the convent of St. Francis since 1840.
